
Goji Labs partnered with Gaido to develop a mobile app aimed at transforming travel experiences by connecting users with authentic, local insights and personalized recommendations. Frustrated by the prevalence of generic, sponsored content in existing travel platforms, Gaido's founder, Jack, envisioned a solution that would spotlight hidden gems curated by knowledgeable local guides. To bring this vision to life, Goji Labs conducted extensive qualitative user research and iterative design processes. They discovered that travelers valued the personal stories and backgrounds of local guides, which added credibility and depth to recommendations. In response, the app was designed to feature detailed guide profiles, allowing users to connect more meaningfully with the suggested experiences. Monetization posed a challenge, as users had access to abundant free travel information. However, research indicated a demand for personalized travel planning. Goji Labs introduced a feature enabling users to virtually consult with local guides for tailored itineraries, enhancing user value and creating a viable revenue stream. Initially, the team considered developing a comprehensive itinerary builder. User feedback, however, revealed a preference for flexible planning. Consequently, the app adopted a lightweight approach, allowing users to save favorite spots and receive personalized suggestions without rigid scheduling. The final product, available on iOS and Android, offers a seamless interface that fosters authentic exploration through local expertise and personalized guidance. This approach not only differentiates Gaido in the travel app market but also aligns with modern travelers' desires for genuine, customizable experiences.
