Dragonfly Café is a social enterprise of Raphael Village, a New Orleans-based organization providing education, life skills, and vocational training for children and adults with exceptionalities. When the café opened in fall 2021, they came to Online Optimism needing a brand identity, printed menus, and a website built to handle reservations, catering orders, and private event requests. With multiple stakeholders involved and a mission-driven team already stretched thin, everything needed to be functional, beautiful, and easy to manage without outside help. Online Optimism built the brand from scratch, centering the visual identity on warmth, delight, and familiarity. The logo depicts a dragonfly in flight, a nod to the transformational journeys of the students and young adults who work at the café, rendered with watercolor detail that gives it a handcrafted, whimsical quality. A warm color palette, hand-drawn typography, watercolor illustrations, and dashed line elements rounded out an identity that carries consistently across print and digital materials. On the collateral side, Online Optimism designed a single-sheet paper menu and a quarter-sheet specials menu, both built as editable templates with staff training included so the Dragonfly Café team could handle updates independently. The website brought everything together with a custom digital menu, OpenTable reservation integration, and two custom forms for catering orders and private event requests. Conditional logic, seasonal field controls, and dietary badge integration made the catering form flexible enough to handle the café's specific needs without overwhelming customers. The project earned a 2022 Indigo Bronze Award in the Restaurants/Café category. More than the award, though, the engagement delivered something the Dragonfly Café team could genuinely own. As Bakery + Market Chef Twyla Mount put it, Online Optimism helped them build something great and easy to manage, found a cohesive voice across a team with a lot of input, and delivered a final product that everyone loves.

Cardinal Expo is a New Orleans-based trade show services company operating nationwide. They approached Online Optimism in mid-2021 with a real timing challenge: they needed to grow their online presence through SEO while in-person events were still recovering from the effects of COVID. After early SEO success, their leadership wanted to build on that momentum by adding pay-per-click advertising to the mix and generating more qualified leads across their major service areas. Online Optimism's Content team had already built more than a dozen organic and conversion-optimized service area landing pages for mid-sized markets where Cardinal Expo excels. That work gave the team a strong foundation to build a Google Ads strategy on, even without prior Ads data to reference. The team leaned on existing brand knowledge and industry insight to develop a comprehensive paid search approach from scratch. Online Optimism launched with a Brand campaign and a New Orleans-specific campaign, using SEO insights to keep cost-per-click low from the start. From there, the team expanded into Las Vegas, Chicago, and Orlando, targeting medium-sized markets like Dallas where Cardinal Expo had real opportunities to win. When certain markets, like Anaheim, stopped producing results at a justifiable cost-per-conversion, the team pulled back quickly and reallocated budget to where it was working. A hyper-localized ad strategy paired with intensive search term analysis and negative keyword implementation helped bring cost-per-conversion down over time. As CTR and impression share dipped following early expansions, Online Optimism responded by getting more precise about which searches were actually worth showing up for. That kind of ongoing refinement is what kept the campaigns performing rather than plateauing. The results reflected the work. Comparing the first six months of 2021 to the same period in 2022, organic sessions grew 154.46%, from 909 to 2,313. Paid campaigns brought in more qualified leads across multiple markets while keeping costs under control, giving Cardinal Expo a scalable digital presence built to grow alongside their business.
