Expert to Know: Marton Varo

What's the backstory behind starting or joining your agency?
I founded Brandefy in 2011 after realizing there was a gap between beautiful creative work and videos that actually drove business results. Too many production companies focused exclusively on filmmaking, while many marketing agencies outsourced the creative. I wanted to build a company that understood both.
Since then, we’ve produced thousands of videos for startups, large enterprises, nonprofits, healthcare organizations, and growing brands. Our goal has always been the same: create content that’s not only visually compelling but also strategically designed to help clients achieve measurable business outcomes.
How do you define success today?
Success isn’t measured by the number of videos we produce. It’s measured by the results our clients achieve because of those videos.
If a campaign lowers customer acquisition costs, increases conversions, helps a startup raise funding, or allows a business to grow, that’s a success. The best compliment we receive is when clients come back year after year because they see us as an extension of their marketing team rather than simply another vendor.
What are the most energizing moments in your work?
The most rewarding part is seeing strategy come to life.
It starts with understanding a client’s challenges, then developing creative concepts that solve real business problems. Watching those ideas evolve from a script into a finished campaign — and then seeing measurable results after launch — is incredibly satisfying.
I also enjoy building long-term relationships with clients. Some of our clients have worked with us for many years, and it’s rewarding to play a small role in their growth over time.
How does your agency differentiate itself from competitors?
We combine agency-level marketing strategy with the execution capabilities of a full-service production company.
Many production companies can create beautiful videos. We focus just as much on why the video is being made, who it’s for, where it will live, and what success looks like after it’s launched.
We’ve also built a nationwide network of experienced production crews, allowing us to produce high-quality content across the country without requiring expensive travel. That gives clients greater flexibility while keeping budgets efficient.
What core principles and values guide your agency?
Three principles guide nearly every decision we make.
First, strategy comes before production. A great-looking video without a clear objective rarely performs as well as one built around a thoughtful marketing strategy.
Second, communication matters. Clients should always know what’s happening, what comes next, and when they can expect deliverables.
Third, treat every project like it’s your own. Whether we’re producing a social media ad or a national commercial campaign, we approach every engagement with the same level of ownership and attention to detail.
What do you predict for the industry in the next 5-10 years?
AI will dramatically change how video content is planned, produced, and optimized, but I don’t believe it will replace great creative thinking.
The barrier to creating video will continue to fall. That means the real differentiator won’t be who can generate content the fastest — it will be who can develop the strongest ideas, understand audience psychology, and build campaigns that connect with real people.
I also think clients will expect agencies to move much faster while producing more content than ever before. The agencies that embrace AI as a productivity tool while maintaining high creative standards will have a significant advantage.
What's a belief you hold about the industry that most would disagree with?
I don’t think bigger budgets automatically produce better marketing.
Some of the highest-performing campaigns we’ve created have been relatively simple productions backed by strong messaging and a deep understanding of the target audience. Meanwhile, I’ve seen expensive commercials that looked incredible but failed to move the business forward.
Creative strategy almost always has a greater impact than production budget.
What do clients often misunderstand about agency work?
Many people assume the camera is the most important part of video production.
In reality, the majority of a project’s success is determined long before filming begins. Strategy, messaging, scripting, planning, casting, and understanding the audience have a much greater impact on performance than the specific camera or equipment being used.
Production is important, but preparation is what makes great work possible.
What keeps you passionate about this industry?
Every project is different.
One week we might be helping a healthcare company educate patients. The next, we’re launching a consumer product, creating a fundraising campaign for a nonprofit, or producing content for a technology company.
That variety keeps the work interesting, but what really motivates me is knowing that the videos we create can have a measurable impact on someone’s business. Helping clients grow has been the most rewarding part of building Brandefy over the past decade.
