Ford Assisted Driving Systems

Ford Assisted Driving Systems

We designed interactive experiences for Ford's assisted driving technology, creating digital interfaces that help drivers understand, trust, and effectively use advanced driver assistance features in Ford vehicles.

Challenge

Assisted driving technology is powerful but only valuable if drivers understand and trust it. Ford needed interactive experiences that could communicate how their driver assistance systems work — what they do, what they don't do, and how to use them safely. The content had to bridge a significant knowledge gap between engineering capability and consumer understanding, without either oversimplifying the technology or creating anxiety about using it. The experience also needed to work across multiple vehicle platforms and feature levels.

Solution

We designed interactive visualizations that demonstrate assisted driving features in realistic driving scenarios. Rather than listing specifications, the experience shows what the technology looks like in action — how lane centering responds to curves, how adaptive cruise control manages distance, how the system communicates its status to the driver. We used progressive disclosure to layer information from high-level overviews down to detailed operational specifics for users who want deeper understanding. The design system was built to accommodate different vehicle models and feature packages without requiring complete redesigns for each variant.

Results

The interactive experiences gave Ford a powerful tool for driver education and confidence-building around assisted driving technology. The scenario-based approach helped consumers understand complex technology in practical terms, supporting both marketing and owner education goals. The modular design system allowed rapid adaptation across vehicle platforms, and the experiences have been integrated into multiple touchpoints across Ford's digital ecosystem.
