Stanford Web Design

We partnered with Stanford to design a web experience that communicates the university's research, programs, and institutional identity with the clarity and authority one of the world's leading academic institutions demands.
Challenge
Stanford's digital presence needed to serve an exceptionally diverse audience — prospective students, current faculty, research partners, donors, and the public — while maintaining the university's distinctive voice and visual standards. Academic web projects carry unique challenges: content is created by many stakeholders, information architecture must accommodate vast amounts of content, and the design must balance institutional gravitas with accessibility and warmth. The site needed to feel as rigorous as Stanford's academic reputation while remaining inviting and navigable.
Solution
We designed a web experience grounded in Stanford's institutional identity while modernizing the digital execution. The information architecture was organized around audience needs rather than organizational structure, creating clear pathways for each visitor type. The visual design uses Stanford's iconic color palette and typography with contemporary digital conventions — generous white space, responsive imagery, and accessible type scales. We built a component library that empowers content creators across departments to publish polished, on-brand pages without designer intervention.
Results
The redesigned web experience strengthened Stanford's digital presence by making institutional content more discoverable and engaging. The audience-driven architecture improved navigation efficiency for key visitor segments, and the component library enabled consistent quality across decentralized content creation. The design set a new standard for how Stanford's digital properties present the university to the world.
