E-commerce Platform & Warehouse Automation for Visdeal

This case study details Anadea’s 14-year technical partnership with Visdeal, a leading Dutch e-commerce platform. The team replaced a legacy monolithic setup with a modular architecture using Ruby on Rails and Elixir, unifying eight European markets and 80,000 products into a single management system. Additionally, they automated operations across a 5,000-square-meter warehouse via a custom QR-scanning mobile app, completely eliminating stock and logistics discrepancies. These upgrades accelerated page loading times 10x and helped push the company's annual turnover past €21 million.
Challenge
Visdeal’s rapid scaling from a local daily-deals site into a major European retailer exposed critical limitations within its original infrastructure:
- Legacy monolith bottlenecks. The initial GetSocio platform choked on growing traffic. Page rendering dragged up to 10 seconds, tanking conversion rates during seasonal sales spikes, while a lack of APIs blocked payment and analytics integrations.
- Fragmented international operations. Eight separate regional websites operated completely independently. This forced the team to manually duplicate content and translations, while custom tax and shipping setups for each country made unified business analytics impossible.
- Warehouse and logistics blind spots. In a massive 5,000 m² facility, tracking relied on paper records and manual sorting. The lack of real-time sync between online orders and physical stock caused frequent packaging errors and fulfillment delays.
- Multi-channel marketplace friction. Selling simultaneously through their own store and global giants like Amazon or Bol.com created constant risks of inventory duplication, desynchronized stock data, and inconsistent pricing.
Solution
To modernize the platform and automate logistics without disrupting active sales, the team executed a comprehensive technical roadmap:
- Replaced the legacy monolith with a modular architecture. Migrated the system to Ruby on Rails and Elixir/Phoenix, rewriting critical components like the shopping cart and product catalog from scratch while maintaining backward compatibility to prevent downtime.
- Unified international market management. Created a single admin interface featuring AI-powered translations via DeepL and implemented Micro Frontends to adapt designs to local preferences across eight countries.
- Automated large-scale warehouse operations. Integrated Picqer WMS, developed a custom mobile application for QR code scanning, and configured automatic packaging size selection based on product dimensions from small hooks to boats.
- Synchronized multi-channel marketplace sales. Embedded ChannelEngine to automate product listings on Amazon and Bol.com, enabling centralized inventory control within a single system.
- Integrated localized payments and behavioral marketing. Deployed the Adyen payment gateway to support regional payment methods and integrated Copernica to automate targeted email campaigns based on user behavior.
Results
The infrastructure modernization and process automation drove steady business scaling across the European market:
- Boosted annual turnover past €21 million, achieving 54% revenue growth through UX optimization and marketplace integrations.
- Accelerated page rendering 10x, significantly reducing bounce rates and lifting conversions during peak seasonal demand.
- Unified over 80,000 product listings into a single synchronized inventory management system across 8 localized European markets.
- Sustained seamless platform performance for over 3 million annual visitors across all regional domains.
- Automated multi-channel sales across 5+ major marketplaces including Amazon and Bol.com with centralized stock control from a single dashboard.
- Eliminated packaging errors and shipping delays in the 5,000 m² warehouse by deploying the custom QR-scanning mobile application.
