Standardizing 3D QA for Furniture Visual Models

Standardizing 3D QA for Furniture Visual Models

The customer is a leading American e-commerce company selling approximately 14 million furniture and home goods items online from more than 11,000 global suppliers. They engaged our team to provide 3D Quality Assurance (QA) for its furniture visual models.

Because visual QA is inherently subjective, the customer sought to ensure consistent evaluation standards across all QA analysts. The goal was to clearly define which issues are critical to enforce, standardize QA comments for better clarity, and reduce variance in feedback between analysts reviewing the same model.

To achieve this, QA priorities were aligned around two key questions:

How noticeable is the issue in the final image? How does the issue impact the customer experience? This approach helped anchor all QA feedback to consistent, customer-focused criteria, improving alignment between QA analysts and modelers.

English Challenges The customer’s 3D QA standards are highly detailed and demanding, requiring strict adherence across multiple quality dimensions, including:

Overall Product Shape: Dimensions, proportions, and structural accuracy Overall Product Material: Color fidelity, material definition, reflectivity/glossiness, bump maps, and texture quality Overall Photorealism: Realistic lighting, shading, and visual consistency Overall UV Mapping: Mirroring, scale and stretching, seams, continuous UV projection, and distortion control In addition, many furniture renders were highly complex, increasing the effort required for thorough evaluation. QA timelines were also extremely tight due to the large volume of models that needed to be reviewed and completed within aggressive delivery schedules.

Solution Trained the QA team on the customer’s 3D QA standards to ensure consistent understanding and application across all reviews. Established a common testing process for the entire team to improve testing efficiency and velocity.

Results

Results Met the customer’s expectations for both testing velocity and the accuracy and clarity of reported issues.

Due to strong satisfaction with the quality and consistency of testing, the customer expanded the engagement, increasing the number of QA engineers from 10 to 20+.
