What makes your agency different from others in your space?

WD was started on the premise that nothing in digital exists in a silo. We built our team around this idea and have experts in different disciplines, all working together on behalf of our clients. It’s hard enough to find an expert in SEO or UI/UX as it is, but even harder to find a project team that has both in the same room working in lockstep with one another. In the most involved cases, we’re designing and delivering software products for companies, and then managing their GTM strategy.

How do you foster creative thinking on your team?

We–meaning my cofounder and I–don’t know everything that we don’t know. Since we started, we’ve always been open to whatever work inspires our people, and trust that opportunities in the market will follow. If given the freedom to explore their passions, the right people connect dots we might not see. Some of our primary services now came about when team members shared a burning desire to engage in certain types of projects that they saw an opportunity to introduce to clients. Now they make up significant chunks of our current workload.

What’s a trend you’re betting on long-term?

Never underestimate running ad campaigns with first-party data. We have clients who are sometimes sitting on historical data that–when paired with the right technology–are a goldmine. We run targeted campaigns to known audiences and convert lapsed customers or rekindle relationships with leads that went cold. Similarly, procuring lists of first-party data has been a great way to generate demand for our clients. We don’t do away with cookie or search-based campaigns, but incorporating first-party campaigns for clients is a trend we think will be here to stay.

What’s one resource that changed how you work?

Great by Choice by Jim Collins is my all-time favorite. Controlling what you can in otherwise chaotic environments is critical, and this book offers incredible insight on how to do this effectively. We started our firm during the midst of the Pandemic, and are now navigating through the uncertainty of AI and how it’s shaking up our industry. The principles and lessons from Great by Choice are a great set of guidelines for navigating the changing world around you as an owner.
