Founded in 1979, AAAI is the oldest and most common AI trade association accessible to a wide & open audience. With over 5,000 members worldwide as of May 2025, its annual membership fee is cheap and affordable at $135 for the year. Students can receive annual membership fees of just $50.
AAAI hosts 12 conferences throughout the year, including international locations like Vancouver and Dubai. It also operates through more than 100 chapters across the world.

ASFAI is typically regarded as the most prestigious and elite of the AI associations given its highly-restrictive membership system that operates through an invitation-only system. According to its website, it allows a maximum of 125 members which include vetted leaders across industry, government, and academia.
Founded in 2023, it emerged as a response to the high-rise of AI noise in the aftermath of the ChatGPT release, becoming a convening place for senior leaders to meet each other and discuss pressing topics in AI. Its membership includes US Senators, Fortune 500 C-Suite, and leading AI researchers.

Funding: ASFAI publicly states they accept zero donations nor sponsorships. As a two-year old organization, its IRS available data (2022 and before) is nonexistent.

IMLS is a research and academic-focused organization that asks its membership to submit paper submissions at the end of January for its annual July conference, the International Conference on Machine Learning (ICML).
It was initially launched as the First Machine Learning Workshop, but later evolved into a top conference of professionals dedicated to the advancement of machine learning, artificial intelligence, statistics, and data science.

Similar to IMLS, ICLR is often regarded as its sister organization because its primary focus is bringing together leading researchers and academics in the field of AI. It is most-known for its founding organizer, famous AI scientist Yann LeCunn.
IMLS was founded in 2023 and has employed an open peer review system, allowing for public discussion and feedback on submitted papers.
Mission Statement: The International Conference on Learning Representations (ICLR) is the premier gathering of professionals dedicated to the advancement of the branch of artificial intelligence called representation learning, but generally referred to as deep learning.

O-SAIF is the newest AI association and organization, which immediately came to the scene after it announced it had raised $10 million in a campaign aimed to promote the adoption of open-source AI.
Launched in 2025, it has a focus toward U.S. Government Agencies and it champions transparency, accountability, and of course, open-source software.

Founded in 1987, NIPSF is the organization that organizes the Neural Information Processing Systems (NeurIPS) Conference, one of the most prestigious conferences in AI and machine learning. Originally focused on neural computation, the conference has since broadened its scope to include deep learning, computational neuroscience, and reinforcement learning.
NIPSF operates NeurIPS as an annual peer-reviewed conference that attracts more than 20,000 global attendees and over 200 sponsors. Researchers submit papers by May, with final selections presented at the December event.

PAI is unique among AI organizations in its explicit emphasis on AI ethics, fairness, and policy. Founding members include Amazon, Google, IBM, Apple, and Microsoft, along with academic and nonprofit partners like the ACLU and UC Berkeley.
Mission Statement: To bring together diverse voices to address the most important and difficult questions on the future of AI.
